About Modern Christian Women of Color

At Modern Christian Women of Color, we encourage ladies to discuss and reflect upon real-life issues from a biblical perspective in a safe, positive space. Hopefully, you will feel like you have had a good venting session with your best friend – the one who won’t judge or embarrass you about your struggles.

We urge spiritually-minded women to bring that same compassion and energy to this community. We want women to heal emotional wounds from past disappointments to live a victorious, purpose-driven life in Christ. To this end, we have developed print books, eBooks, audio downloads and blog posts to help Christian women achieve everyday victory.

You are not alone on this journey! At MCW, “[We] pray that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:16-18 NRSV).

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I, Ashan R. Hampton, am the writer and web designer behind Modern Christian Women of Color.  Many years ago, I received the idea to build a community of single women to share Bible resources with, either in church or in small group settings. I was in my late 20s. Now, I am not! After several ill-fated teaching ‘adventures’ at local mega-churches, I shut down, and stopped attending church altogether for a very long time. Church hurt is real, people!

During those years, I managed to write a book, “Set Your Affections on Things Above (2002), which has been updated to “Some Bitter, Some Sweet: Becoming a Single Woman God Can Use (2016). To support my first book, I created a Yahoo group, and sent weekly newsletter messages to my subscribers. I was surprised at how many people joined and commented on the messages. Well, 16 years later, I am back once again, this time with a sophisticated blog site that has taken many, many hours to create! 🙂

God has given me a lot to say, especially to single Christian women, and particularly to African-American women. This time, I will not allow the enemy – working through people – to silence my voice or to grieve the Holy Spirit. Feel free to email me directly: ashan@arhampton.com.

MY CHURCH AFFILIATIONS

Currently, I am on the membership roll at Full Counsel Metro Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas under the leadership of Bishop Silas and the late Dr. Jennifer Johnson (RIL 2022). Learn more about the church, the pastors and statement of faith on the About section of the website. Unfortunately, unlike my previous churches, I was not able to connect and express my gifts and talents with this congregation. But, I appreciate their embrace of the full gospel, including speaking in tongues. I was also deeply impressed by the mature marital and spiritual relationship that the pastors modeled. They truly loved each other and it was obvious.

However, my home church-where I was born and raised-is First Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas–under the leadership of Pastor William E. Thrasher, Jr., Pastor Antoine Scruggs (Youth Pastor), and the late Pastor C. L. Harvey. At this church, from childhood to young adulthood, I honed my teaching and speaking gifts,–thanks to some wonderful, old-school K-12 educators–Ms. Eloise Fitzpatrick and Ms. Oshie Pledger–who helped to develop my communication talents. I taught youth Sunday school, served as the youth secretary, gave speeches, and even an elegy for a fellow teen. I carry wonderful memories of my church family, because I have never felt close fellowship like that at any other church.

While in Atlanta, Georgia, I taught a new members class called, “Gifts & Fruit of the Spirit” for Beulah Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry D. Black–a fellow Arkansan.

When I returned home, I taught a women’s topical Sunday school class at St. Mark Baptist Church with Bishop Steven M. Arnold. I also briefly served Greater Fellowship West as a Sunday school and bible study teacher with Bishop Esau Watson Jr. before attending Full Counsel.
